You know what hurts the most in the world? What is that can shatter you in the worst possible form? When you have to make a choice between love and religion. Before i continue to express my thoughts i would just like to make it clear to everybody that "Its a personal opinion and I don't intend to hurt or offend any religion or religious values, sentiments and virtues of anyone".
So where was I? Yes! the tragedy of choices. You know how it feels when you are in love with a person and he/she has to be set free not because of some other person, rather because you two are not from the same castes. I have seen things like these happening in India, with quite a lot of my friends but could never believe it can strike me some day. So where and how did it strike me, isn't to be shared now, may be some day later.
Why is it a choice anyways? Its not like choosing between a coke and a pepsi. I started discussing this issue with a lot of my friends and they came up with really interesting arguments like "You religion is your identity" (i chuckled.. seriously??) "What will your parents think" (That is something to worry about) "Your religion forms your values" (So u mean its the way you pray decide what kind of a person are you in your life !! BULLSHIT)
"You religion is your identity"!! How exactly? Do we know Newton, Einstein, Dhirubhai Ambani, Laksmi Mittal, Warren Buffet by their religion? Or by the things they did in their lives? So people i think its about time you should start loving a person and not his religion. I know a lot of things come into play here. Society, honor, culture: but nobody cares at the end of the day. You would die with a regret that you couldn't live with a person you loved because he just had a different way of praying.
I love the girl and i am ready to take a step against the society to be with her because society is a bitch, it will prick you whether you do something or you don't. So why not do and be happy rather than not do and regret later. I did not chose to be a Hindu, i was just born in a Hindu family. Its not that I had a choice over there, and even if I did, how does it matter here.
I believe in God and I believe in Love... Something that I don't believe in is the superficial idea it..

I would be with u for this! I hate this differentiation because of castes! People cant b or tell that person that they love them b'cuz they already know they wouldn't b able to b together! i hate it!

Good point.....go for her. If u need witness at the registrar's office, I can be one.
ReplyDeleteGood luck
Sigh!
ReplyDeleteAnuj, this is exactly on my mind. Not just religion.. there are many 'other' things that people have to consider before they move forward apart from love, which is really sad.
These things can only change with time.. a lot of time. The next generation should not face this issue and controlling that would be in our hands. :)
Ahaa... Defending your love... Hmmm.. India is little bit behind for this change das.. tht is around a 100 years.. but.. tu load na le teri Shadi me hum jaroor aayenge. ;)
ReplyDeleteEasier said than done!
ReplyDeleteWe do foolish things and disguise them in the name of love. Everytime we want to rebel, love becomes our armor. But there is a lot more apart from love (the mushy mushy kind) on the basis of which society runs. Our rose-tinted glasses distance us from the realities of the future, love blinds us from the past and the future.
But guess what, there is something that we overlook completely. Rather, take it for granted. It is the way society functions. There is semblance and sanity because societies have been built ingeniously by our forefathers, not completely infallible, nevertheless with a certain code of conduct so that we can go to sleep in peace everyday. Religion is just another tool society uses to keep a check on things. And let us give some credit to the solid foundation society is based on and that has stood the test of time for thousands of years.
Having said that, I don't think any of this should deter us from questioning the way things works. We rebel, fight, retaliate for something we believe in, and there can be two ends to the story, both plausible and positive. We either give up fighting cause we see that there are more flaws in our analogies than in the system and resign to our so called fate, hence making society stronger and more firm in its beliefs. The other possible end is that we fight, we are joined by other people, we form a revolution which overthrows the rudimentary philosophies of our society that find no place in a new age and time and that we refer to as, change.
The choice is yours. At the end of this battle, you will be on one of these sides. And trust me, either ways, you will still be a part of this very society that you so loathe at the moment and contribute to its structure in one way or another.
In hindsight, everything works out for the better. And like Steve Jobs put it, we can connect the dots only when we look back.
Till then, stay hungry, stay foolish!
liked the first para :)

hmmm...feeling the pain of going for extreme inter caste marriage... Future of any love depends on the boy and girl itself n none other...if they are strong all dis things u talking about will be secondary but if any one link is weaken then you got to think on few points...
ReplyDelete1. parents
2. society
3. life ahead
4. acceptance
5. fear of boycott
etc etc
but then dis is an age old thing
dnt blame society for anything ... remember we are the part of it.
love biggest test is (tragedy of choice) " love of parents or love of ur soul mate "
so its on you...
right now youth is with you go on boy...every thing will be good...but agar baad mein jab rai ka pahad banaya jayega...where will be this youth..do dare to think :)
waise main toh jodhpur hunga toh bhai ka saath toh hai hi...:)but really surprise to hear dis from you...(p.s you have the coolest family we know :P :) )
give her shoulder when she is weak n you have her for life...parents also do the same thing when one of link(boy or girl) they strongly remind them about the shoulder they gave us when we were young ... so...bhai terayaar rehna mauke ka fyada sub uthate hai.. tum se koi dhila pada aur ....u knw wht
ReplyDeleteWell I've seen so many failed relationships, where people choose religion over love. I mean you never fall for a person, after looking at their religion. Coz if that was the case, I wouldn't call it love.
ReplyDeleteReligion does not define your identity. It only defines your belief. And that has nothing to do with love. Except where even religion says- Love your fellow human beings. It's all a matter of perception. The day people start accepting people for who they are, I'm sure there would be no place for such a bias.
